The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday edition that a senior official at Starnet
Communications International Inc. denied yesterday allegations that the Internet
gambling provider was ever involved in the possession or distribution of child
pornography. Scott Carley, a business development officer at Vancouver-based
Starnet, was responding to allegations in an RCMP investigation that the company
was engaged in the sale and distribution of computerized child pornography. Court
documents filed in support of an application for a search warrant contain details of
the 18-month probe, which led to a police raid of Starnet's head offices last
Friday. The documents contain allegations that Starnet distributed obscene
material through a series of Web sites. The company put its adult entertainment
division up for sale yesterday. After police completed a weekend search of
Starnet's Vancouver office, they could not say whether charges will be laid against
any of the 15 Starnet employees named in a 68-page document containing
"information to obtain a search warrant."
