Hey, I'm just a little crazy remember :)

I'm more in line with the rest of you but I just don't buy this "fear spreading" stuff that goes on. I don't like the references to Hitler et al. Don't you find that just a little extreme?

Make some good arguements and give us some solid solutions. Don't just spread the fear so that people have a malformed opinion on what should be done. That's what the government does....

Don't think for a moment that I would fully support ANY agency or government push to gain any more control over my life than I feel is necessary to protect the life I have (and of those around me). But what is necessary? It's these questions that I haven't fully answered for myself and I don't think anyone else could answer them for me. I appreciate everyone's efforts to "give" me their answer but unfortunately it doesn't work that way. Same goes for my opinion.

As a network engineer/administrator I want the ability to go to a government agency (like the FBI or local police) and make a case regarding things like illegal access into my network. I want that agency to have the necessary "power" or ability to help me safeguard my network by tracking down the person(s) responsible and holding them accountable.

What you folks are saying is that power to do good things has too many negative POSSIBILITIES which make you uncomfortable. So you'd much rather they didn't have the ability (or power) to do their job so you could sleep better at night. Am I following your arguement correctly?

Now I don't claim to possess the answer and I surely expect you and others on this thread to want more dialogue on this matter. Instead of spreading fear why don't we educate people. Start dialogues with our elected officials. Get the media involved. Let's find a solution that works.

Ok, I don't want you to think I'm crazy. I'm just looking for a better solution. Some people think no access is the only way while others think all access is the best way. Perhaps there's someplace in the middle where we all can feel comfortable?
