Our carpets came with the house and they look to be "renter grade". (And the closets are uncarpeted, imagine taht.) I dream of redoing them one day with that thick short Bermudagrass plush stuff that always costs a bundle in the stores. And feels so good under bare feet. But first I'll allow the chitlins to pass thru the phase where they're liable to "forget" popsicles or discover nail polish or axle grease. In the meantime, if the carpet gains patches of "character" it's Big Shrug time. I used ethyl acetate, a tad more aggressive than acetone but entirely non-toxic. The carpet does feel "funny" - I might have structurally changed those patches. Tough doodies. :-)
