The 10q report on EDGAR says unit shipments for the 1Q 96 were down 14% from Q1 95. In a way, I'm surpirsed it wasn't more given the dirge-like news on Apple all quarter. The real story will be 2nd quarter and whether shipments rebound or whether continued weakness occurs. One bad sign: I'm trying to buy a Powerrbook 5300 and they've all been recalled. Can't get one until mid-to late June. If I treated this investment on a cold-hearted basis, I guess I would sell Apple. I do believe, however, that all the bad news is priced into the stock and a just a bit of good news will move it up smartly (IBM cloning deals, early release of Copland, PPCP machines col y to strong reviews, etc.-I think you get the idea). News of this type is very likely, and if I were Amelio, I'd plan a surpirse like this for the near future. I see modest upside to AAPL and little downside. BTW, what other computer hardware maker would you invest in now other than Hewlett Packard?
