NHP, Sam and Jay,

Thanks for the explanation. I think it is starting to sink into my thick skull.

I guess that there must be a quoted price on the value of the shares offered to clients of the underwriters. Would that be based on the share price on the day of the offering or some other standard? I mean, with an IPO there is no predetermined market value. Here we have been public for a few years. How are these shares pawned off on clients at a reasonable price and is this price made public?

If they were sold at a discount to the "street value" one would be tempted to just turn around and resell the shares. So there must be a fixed (pre-determined) share price based on ????????
