I can't be real specific, but I know my scanner literature (it's an old pre-PNP HP ScanJet IIP) said that the scanner might conflict with the network card. The solution is to change a jumper on the scanner card. If your friend has a PNP scanner card he might try removing it (and the driver just to be sure) and then try to get his network card and RR working. Then add the scanner card back in. Maybe Windows will reassign the resources in a non-conflicting way if done in that order. Another possibility is to use the "update ESCD" option in the BIOS if his BIOS has that option. I think it tells Windows to reassign resources to make everyone happy. If he has a really clogged system I think there's some other things he can do in the BIOS. Usual disclaimer. w
