Gee, this discussion sounds familiar...hmmm. Not too long ago:

1. Splits are good, perceived growth, cheaper price.

2. Splits are bad, people sell to balance portfolio.

3. Splits are neither good or bad, don't matter.

Oversimplification on my part? Yes.

No details are necessary until disputed.

As for the timing being too soon, VISX has split twice this year, SCH has split twice in the past seven months (3:2 and 2:1). Both are still higher than their split prices. Just to name a few.

The only times I have seen splits hurt a company is if they split too much when the company is still questionable, both ended in disaster (the company's, not the splits). The point being, it was the company and the earnings. (As a few have smartly stated)
