Charles Schwab Unveils Online Trading Sys Velocity

SAN FRANCISCO -- Charles Schwab & Co. (SCH) unveiled Velocity, an online trading system
for active investors that speeds the transfer of trade and stock quote information between the
investor and the company.

The company defines as active investor as one who makes at least 100 trades a year.

In a press release Tuesday, Schwab said the system allows clients to trade on multiple accounts
without separate log-ins and to submit multiple orders from a single screen. Velocity also runs while
clients simultaneously log on to the Signature Services customer center.

The system is available to all Signature Services clients, who have $100,000 a year in household
equity or more than 12 commissionable trades annually.

As reported Tuesday in The Wall Street Journal, Schwab sent new CD-ROM disks to 40,000 of
its "platinum customers," those with $1 million or more in assets or who make 48 or more trades a
year.

In the fourth quarter, the company plans to introduce real-time streaming quotes, Nasdaq Level II
quotes and real-time news, as well as portfolio management and options.
