Regarding a run on bank deposits, Americans have very little savings to withdraw. The issue I feel much more troublesome is a run on brokerage accounts as Y2K approaches. The likelyhood of serious internet access downtime hasn't even begun to penetrate the market psyche. With hundreds of billions of dollars in non-retirement trading accounts, that could prove to be the greater danger. Many of us remember the short lived panic in Oct. 97, when the web-brokers failed for a few hours and so did their 800#s. Sudden unexpected fear can cause unreasoned panic. Tick-Tock. When is someone trusted by the public going to drop that other shoe? I must admit, it appears I may stand alone in this opinion, or am reading the wrong threads?
