That illustrates my point. They turned a dog in their venture portfolio (Sierra) into a gem through acquisition. Sure it cost them some dilution but you gotta give credit to Sierra management for at least knowing that their core business was eventually going to go to shit and the WAN was a potential home run. Reminds me of Security Dynamics spawning Verisign, another gem whose market cap dramatically exceeds the original parent.
