It's hard to short a stock today and wait 4 months for your PP to come free trading. Although it seems like a good hedge you would have to put up 200% of the capital to be short.

On top of that other things could happen in the mean time, like further development of the field they just drilled.

doesn't make sense to me, just my opinion
