Re: "Its the averatge % gain of the stocks (SPX) if bought on that day and held as a position hold for 12 months (average of data for 50 years)"
So, if I buy 100 shares of SPY on December 30, 1999, sell on the morning of December 30, 2000, buy 100 shares of SPY on the evening of December 30, 2000, sell that 100 shares on the morning of December 30, 2001, and repeat for 50 years, I will make an average of 31.1% on my money, assuming that past performance continues into the future.
Hmmm.
Maybe I can short 100 shares of SPY on December 23, 1999, cover my short position on the morning of December 23, 2000, short again on the afternoon of December 23, 2000, and repeat. This should net me an average of 7.1%, correct?
Hmmm.
Best wishes,
