Yes this fits the pattern. Do you think the police handed him a ticket to Antigua while they were searching his house? Once someone guilty of a crime like this is caught, the disincentive to lie is gone, as, if guilty, to add on a small lie to investors would really not effect the jail sentence. Sometimes the most ridiculous lies are told after the cops have already caught them.
