Interesting. So if u were trading a $100k accnt for example u would need to make 50 round trips a yr to make it worth switching from a $15/trade broker. Not bad. I'll assume the interface is as bad as the typical discounter;)

Correct on both counts, although I have only Datek to compare it with for web based trading. However, I see a big advantage in terms of flexibility for entering and exiting positions. Being able to enter positions in 100 share increments without worrying about transaction fees is more comfortable for me than buying say 500 shares of a $100 stock in one trade and living through the almost inevitable move against me before the trade goes my way. I like having some cash on the sidelines to average my way into a position, and the flexibility of taking incremental profits. If you play this game, and only hold positions for a few days, 50 round trips a month is likely. I like the sound of about $1.50 per trade for lots of 100 or so.
