Sure could use some help.

I have WIN 98. When I try to do a scan disk (Thorough) at the bottom of the window it starts "checking folders." After 3 boxes appear it reverts back to "checking allocation folders" and does this over and over again till a window comes up and said some is writing to this program etc etc. How can I fix this problem....Thanks
