Several made excellent points on SI about Brocade's CEO.
I think Reyes comments were very revealing. As I
indicated earlier, the Ancor and Brocade have two
fairly different approaches to making switches. Also,
both companies have good entry-level, proof-of-principle
products at low port counts. The battlefield will be
when you start making fabrics with switches to switches.

I personally like Ancor's direction of using a 4-port
non-blocking switch on a chip. In theory, these are
building blocks which could let you demolish the competition
in price/performance when boxes are built with a lot
of ports. In short, Ancor is a hardware company
mostly. Brocade has more invested in software (firmware)
which could explain their special sensitivity to giving
Sun source code. [My apologies to all concerned for
broad brush generalizations.]

One burning question is whether the switch latency
advantage Ancor has staked out will ultimately translate
into the top performing switch. Instinct says yes, but
the proof is in real-world SAN problems moving terabytes
of data among dozens of servers. I personally know of
three highly competent groups which have both switches
in hand. We should know for a fact within weeks.

The computer business is probably the most cut-throat
around. Price/performance means everything. If
Ancor has the goods then there is little need to talk
at this point.
