Freeport checked a range of holes, not just the last ones.
I believe somewhat in your theory, but I think the salting started earlier.
If you look at the results from the beginning, the early ones were at much lower grades, and every once in a while there were holes with "no significant results".
Only later on did all holes have significant results, and at much higher grades.
As for motivation, perhaps the organized criminal elements threatened deGuzman's family.
