DMG PSC1000 Processor Module

d-m-g.demon.co.uk

The DMG PSC1000 (ShBoom) processor module is a high speed 32 bit processor primarily for use in powerful embedded systems.

Originally designed for in-house use, the module is ideal for use as a daughterboard or as part of a modular system. The board has been designed to allow programming of its Flash memory using a standard device programmer and is tolerant of 12V programming algorithms. The Flash memory can also be programmed in-system by the host processor. A simple bit-banged UART is included in firmware to allow downloading user programs to Flash using a standard XMODEM protocol. Generally, firmware is copied to high speed RAM for execution.

2.7" x 1.8" (69 x 46mm) 4 layer PCB

PSC1000 processor running at 64MHz

4Mb (512k x 8) Flash memory

2Mb (64k x 32) fast SRAM

Flash memory programmable on board using standard 12V or 5V device programmer, or in-system using embedded algorithms

2 x 34 way 0.1" header sockets provide access to microprocessor bus and ancillary I/O

Supplied with boot code in Flash to load and execute binary object file using simple Xmodem protocol

Ideal component for high speed embedded Forth systems

The PSC1000 Microprocessor

The PSC1000 (ShBoom) is a 32 bit dual stack processor which uses 8 bit wide instructions (opcodes). Four opcodes are loaded from memory in parallel, which helps to alleviate the normal memory 'bottleneck'. Many of the opcodes correspond directly with Forth words (functions) and thus Forth is a very good fit for this processor. The dual stacks are augmented by an array of general purpose registers, intelligent shifter, memory management unit and a separate on-chip I/O processor. Full details, including a complete databook in .pdf format, are available from Patriot Scientific at ptsc.com

A complete Forth development system is available from Forth Inc at forth.com. Follow the SwiftX link and the links to PSC1000, and be sure to look at their comparative processor benchmarks.

PSC1000 Processor Module, Part No. R2kup-b available for œ125 + VAT in qty1-9. Call for quantity pricing.
