If dialed in to Mindspring, you can ONLY send email via the Mindspring mail server, but you can still read your company email server.

This I don't understand...how could Mindspring prevent you from using any SMTP server you desire?

If not dialed into Mindspring (ie on your company LAN), you can NOT send mail through the Mindspring email server.

Not surprising. Nobody can provide open-access SMTP servers these days because of abuse.
