Pigboy - Re: " i wanted to try to possibly play AMD as a stock on the long side (not because I like the company, but rather on the silly perception they have a chance against Intel)"

If you want to try this, I suggest you SELL AMD PUTS - with a strike price of around $15 - maybe $17 1/2.

(Note - ELmer has described this technique extensively on the AMD thread).

If AMD drops, you can buy the stock for the lower price and you will have already collected the PREMIUM when you sold the PUT.

If AMD goes up - or stays above the strike price - no big deal - you keep the premium free & clear.

I'm personally stunned that AMD hasn't soared on all the ATHFLOP Hoopla - as you note, all the "benchmarks" show it to be a good chip - yet the stock still is stuck below $20.

This behavior is very suspicious - so owning the stock at this point seems questionable.
