Well, I got Velocity up and running earlier this week and have already had some long discussions with tech support about it. I think the thing to keep in mind is this is a 'work in progress' and not really ready for prime time yet. In effect we're beta testing it for Schwab.

One thing to be aware of is that Velocity is not "well behaved". In your C:\WINDOWS directory there's a program called RSRCMTR.EXE or resource meter. Start this up, note the %'s of user & system resources used that it gives you. Then start up Velocity & recheck those %'s. You'll see Velocity requires quite a hefty chunk of your computing resources. Now shut down Velocity and check those %'s again. You'll notice that Velocity doesn't return all the resources it consumes. This is not a sign of well written software!!! In fact, if you start up and shut down Velocity a few times, simulating what you might do in a 6.5 hour trading day, you'll eventually crash your machine. I have a 450 Pentium 2 with 256 MB & crashed it on Tuesday in this manner.

One other note: when the web site is down, so is Velocity. They connect to the same 'back end' servers and if those are down, all access is down. According to tech support, the ultimate plan is to give Signature customers & Velocity users their own servers independent of the web site. No time frame for that as of yet. All Velocity really does is store the razors (screen layouts) on your machine so that the blades (data; account info/quotes/etc.) are all that's transmitted. It does not truly provide an alternative access path to Schwab.
