Just to clear things up...
If dialed in to Mindspring, you can ONLY send email via the Mindspring mail server, but you can still read your company email server.
As stated in the previous message MindSpring can not affect how you communicate with another mail server. Perhaps you should speak with your network admin and ask if they instituted any changes to their mail server (perhaps something like ip-filtering). FWIW, why would you dial into MindSpring from work? It's probably very slower, you can check your MS mail and send mail thru the corporate mail server and LAN.
If not dialed into Mindspring (ie on your company LAN), you can NOT send mail through the Mindspring email server.
This policy has not been in effect for merely a week. It's been in place for over three years (I should know, I was working there when this policy was activated). As stated above, you can *check* your MS mail with no problems and *send* mail thru your corporate SMTP server. Do you need help finding the setting that needs changing?
Also, to add to your gripes, along with the above policy, you cannot access the MindSpring news server unless dialed into mindspring. This is something I don't necessarily like, but this is why I pay an extra $5/mo for an Airnews account. It's loads faster and more complete...
This means that their email program (Outlook) must be reprogrammed each time they go home or return to work. A royal pain that we only tolerated for a few days.
Um... no, it merely means that you don't know how to setup two accounts under Outlook. That would make things loads easier. Also, what are you doing reading MS mail at work? Shouldn't you be working? *g*
My contacts with their tech staff were of no help, they said it was "policy" and were not at all concerned about losing our accounts.
hahaha! Oh yes, I'm sure these were their exact words... It was probably something like "I hate it to, but it's to help prevent SPAM coming thru the mindspring domain and the policy has been in place for some time now."
We, and I guess many other companies, will be making a wholesale switch from Mindspring to another ISP.
MindSpring has never been a ISP focused on corporations. Why a wholesale switch for a policy that has been in place for years, and you just realized?
Also, I have no stake in MindSpring and currently only use them as an emergency backup ISP (light plan).
