Attention Business Editors:

RIM comments on patent complaint

WATERLOO, ON, Aug. 26 /CNW/ - Research In Motion Limited (NASDAQ: RIMM,
TSE: RIM) has learned that a complaint has been filed in the U.S. District
Court, Northern District of California. The complaint alleges that the sale
and marketing of certain RIM products infringe a patent held by Wireless
Access, Inc.
RIM became aware of the patent as a result of a letter sent to the
Company by Wireless Access' counsel offering to extend to RIM a non-exclusive
license under the patent for a one-time licensing fee of $4 million (U.S.).
Based upon a preliminary review of the patent by RIM's counsel, the
Company believes it has several meritorious defenses and intends to vigorously
assert them in due course.
