Research in Motion comments on patent complaint

Research In Motion Limited has learned that a complaint has been filed in
the United States District Court, Northern District of California. The
complaint alleges that the sale and marketing of certain RIM products
infringe a patent held by Wireless Access Inc.
Research in Motion became aware of the patent as a result of a letter sent
to the company by Wireless Access' counsel offering to extend to RIM a
non-exclusive licence under the patent for a one-time licensing fee of
$4-million (U.S.).
Based upon a preliminary review of the patent by RIM's counsel, the company
believes it has several meritorious defenses and intends to vigorously
assert them in due course.
