In their conference call yesterday, Bank One said something very interesting. They said an unspecified but material number of First USA credit card customers had left because a payment processing company had failed to post their payments in a timely fashion. ONE declined to name the processing firm, but a First USA official said it was National Processing (NAP). Reportedly, First USA plans to shift all processing in-house during the next several weeks.

ONE is not the only card issuer in hot water with their customers over the issue of payment timing and late fees. It seems to me that somebody with expertise in real-time payments could be a big help here.
