How trustworthy is your broker?

Investing 101

Question: When do you have a confirmed transaction?

a. When you call your broker firm four time on the same day and four different representatives insist that you have a confirmed transaction even when you tell them no such transaction appears on the exchange print out.

b. When your broker firm enters the transaction in their computer and you see the transaction in your "Accounts Positions" displayed on your computer.

c. When you receive a written confirmation by mail from your broker firm.

d. None of the above.

According to E*Trade, the correct answer is "None of the above". In spite of the fact that a, b and c occurred on a recent transaction of mine with E*Trade, they sent me an Email and said I did not have a confirmed transaction and they have now removed the security from my account. Makes me wonder if the rest of my portfolio is really safe.
