Toy, sounds like Win 2000 ship this year should be at least a 50% probability. And, heaven forbid, Ballmer has been quoted several times as saying it won't ship until it's ready. It shouldn't have as many bugs per thousand lines of code, or however they measure quality at Microsoft. Don't laugh. Also, Microsoft can no longer afford to take their sweet time coming out with new products as various Unix's, including Solaris, Linux if you want to call it a Unix variant, are getting serious, serious business. Further, Intel's new products seem to be getting brought up and validated on these other OSs in parallel, or sooner than, they are on Microsoft OSs. There has to be a new sense of urgency at Microsoft for all these reasons, IMO. Even IBM lost it for a while, but they didn't have a Gates there when it happened.

Gates: Win2000 will ship this
year

Or at least the Microsoft boss is 'pretty sure'
that will be the case with the long-awaited
OS. 'We are very close to the final
shipment.'
