I think SI has been slowly changing the rules. Last year you didn't have to do anything to lurk and read the threads. If you wanted to post you had to register (electronically). Then they changed it so that you had to confirm your registration with a postcard.

Recently, they had you register (electronically) even if you were just going to lurk. Then, last night, my son finally decided to access the SI thread and was allowed to register, but was informed that if he didn't send in $45 within 2 weeks he would be disconnected.

Anybody else know of anything similar?
