I always had good luck kissing up to professor, as well. Many is the time the professor would say something funny, look up from his notes, and see that I was the only one smiling or laughing. That's because most of the time I was the only one awake. I was wide awake and hanging on his every word because I was busily taking copious notes, trying my best to transcribe everything he said. This had the salutary effect of keeping me wide awake, and made me look interested. I treated it as a game.
As for brown-nosing after class, I don't think anything can compare with telling the professor exactly what he wants to hear, which is exactly what he said in class. You'd think they want original thought, but they don't, they want feedback. I tried original thought first, much poorer results.
Once I learned the technique, the worst grade I ever made was B+, and that was very rare. Until I got to law school. That was tougher, as for most classes the grading in anonymous, and I did get a couple of C+ grades. In classes with papers, I still got A's. |
