Thu 26 Aug 99 News Release
Mr. Nigel Stokes reports
DataMirror Corporation and Avnet Computer has entered into an agreement
under which Avnet Computer, one of North America's leading solutions
integrators, will market DataMirror products throughout North America.
The agreement, effective immediately, will strengthen DataMirror's ability
to reach customers requiring enterprise data integration solutions for
their UNIX, Microsoft Windows NT, IBM AS/400 and MVS through Avnet
Computer's North American branches and its strong relationships with
industry leading partners including Cabletron, Cisco, Compaq, Computer
Associates, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Oracle and J.D. Edwards. Under the terms
of the agreement, Avnet Computer will provide the entire DataMirror
software family including the award-winning Transformation Server, High
Availability Suite, iDeliver and SQL Pump product lines.
"As the market for Enterprise Information Management evolves, the need for
software that can integrate data from a complete range of databases and
computing platforms is critical, particularly in the area of Internet
infrastructure," said Nigel Stokes, chairman, chief executive officer and
President of DataMirror Corporation. "Avnet Computer's impressive scope and
proven track record of success will be of benefit to our customers as they
implement central data management, distributed data access, business
intelligence and electronic commerce. We see Avnet Computer as a key
business partner as we position ourselves to take advantage of the enormous
opportunity for Enterprise Information Management solutions."
In the Internet era, companies must build an infrastructure of systems and
software that ensure that data is in the right place, in the right format
and at the right time for business intelligence, e-commerce,
high-availability and other business applications. International Data
Corporation (IDC) sees this movement toward Enterprise Information
Management as an emerging megatrend. IDC believes that the market for data
movement and integration technologies, including replication and
synchronization software from vendors like DataMirror, will see impressive
growth. This is fuelled by the need to integrate e-commerce applications
with production systems, as well as the need to integrate business
applications supplied by other vendors. DataMirror's unique ability to
synchronize so many platforms and databases in real-time enables customers
to solve their data integration needs for e-commerce and other new business
applications.
"Our partnership with DataMirror opens up new opportunities for us in the
emerging application areas addressed by data replication and transformation
software," said Mike Schmidt, Avnet Computer senior vice-president. "These
include high-growth areas like e-business, business intelligence,
enterprise application integration, data and workload distribution and
high-systems availability.
"DataMirror's proven solutions for J.D. Edwards customers, which include
High Availability Suite and QuickMarts business intelligence templates for
rapidly implementing J.D. Edwards data marts, will also enhance Avnet
Computer's ERProSM Supply Chain Solution," Mr. Schmidt added. "In concert
with our ERPerformance services, DataMirror's solutions will help keep our
customers' business-critical OneWorld systems operating at peak performance
throughout the life cycle of the system."
