Re. teenage girls being the object of collective lust (now and possibly then) -- the marketing people didn't force this on us. It's a nature thing, I believe.

The survival of species is rooted in primitive biological imperatives. I believe males are strongly inclined toward women with obvious and probably not-so-obvious motherhood cues. Aside from the youth/health link, perhaps, since our species requires such a long period of nurturing we may require female mates who promise to be around awhile. Also, we males may fixate on the look of female counterparts at the time we had initial sexual urges.

From the female point of view (presented just so the women can tell me how clueless I really am).....I suspect they biologically gravitate toward men with the means or power to protect them from other men and provide for a certain level of need satisfaction.

Modern life and longevity have twisted our perception of our true (IMO) nature to the degree that aging sophisticates (I'm 56 and happily not THAT sophisticated) reject some of the realities. Some may remember the scorn re. my joking interest in meeting E -- as long as she was under 30 (25 even better).

One of my favorite examples of the power of the mating urge is the part of so many animal shows that illustrate the trouble the male goes to to attract the female (I especially like the ones that feature birds). The guy often builds the great nest and then struts and poses and displays his feathery finery to the nth degree.....sometimes at great length.

I never see the film of the bird repeating this behavior on a continuing basis once mated. Got to wonder if nature didn't program some us to be couch potatoes after winning the lady's affection. Then again, there seems an automatic sucking up of the gut when a sweet young thing approaches.....may be nature's way of reminding us of the value of a back-up plan!

If any think my meaning would be more clear with a smiley, please pretend that I included one.
