You have got me running on this! Curiously, I attended yesterday a seminar on the growing convergence arising from digital TV. It seems that there are now some eight or nine distinct set top boxes - VHR, Satellite, cable, PC, games console, cable/satellite transfer switches, telephone lines - and some that I have forgotten. The speaker forecast that by 2004, there will be only three main elements - a virtual station, digital TV and, yes, games consoles. Analog TV will have disappeared and the PC (not the laptop) will have been subsumed into the virtual station.

Trouble is that I did not take notes thinking that a presentation printout would be available - which will only be sent on to me later. The main reason why the 3 Japanese companies do not introduce Windows is not technological but political. However with internet connectivity Windows will probably slide in by the back door.
