If ATT only dealt in open standards AOL would not have a beef with them, now would they?

MSFT wrote a check and got equity in return. Moreso, they got an a lock on the ATT potential broadband market. We do not now what deals were made as a condition of the investment. I am sure it is not in the public domain. MSFT is not an investment company, they sell software and the only reason they made the investment was to sell software. Don't think they did it because they thought this was a good financial move. The ATT deal, just like the other dozen or so other broadband investments were strictly for strategic positioning of CE.

The standard Java VM is not really robust enough to run a rich GUI, therefore it must be upgraded. The VM found in most browsers will run Java, but not with the lightweight GUI components that the more robust has or that most people are accustomed to in Windows products.
