Viking offers order service through Web
* SAN JOSE, Calif. -- -- Viking Freight Inc. has announced that shippers can now place orders for freight pickup through its Web site -- www.vikingfreight.com.
All a shipper has to do is enter his pickup information and it's automatically sent to the appropriate Viking service center, the carrier says.
The shipper then receives an e-mail acknowledgement recapping the request from Viking, and the shipment is picked up and delivered as ordered.
Viking, the Western regional carrier that hauls consolidated shipments in the less-than-truckload sector, is a subsidiary of FDX Corp.
Other LTL carriers, including American Freightways Corp., Harrison, Ark., and Roadway Express Inc., Akron, Ohio, as well as United Parcel Service, Federal Express Corp. and BAX Global, offer a similar service.
Viking Freight specializes in next-day and second-day regional freight service. Viking provides services in 11 western states, including intermodal service to Alaska and Hawaii.

TRW to work with systems integrators
* RESTON, Va. -- -- TRW Inc. has teamed up with four computer systems integration firms in Latin America, Asia and Eastern Europe so that companies in that area can more easily install TRW's warehouse management systems and other logistics-execution software.
TRW says it will use the integration skills of Scan in Mexico, Solvo in Russia, Seven Hills in India and Lenox Logistics in Brazil to expand the global reach of the its Marc product line.

ProNetLink.com to enter Russian market
* NEW YORK -- -- ProNetLink.com, an Internet trade networking company, has signed a sales and development agreement with Moscow-based Global Management and Consulting Services (GMCS) Inc. to handle the company's membership sales, advertising sales and to coordinate and collect Russian-specific content for the ProNetLink.com site. |
