Thanks, Klingerg...
Nicholas Negroponte was an early investor in WAVX... and for all I know is still invested in WAVX.
On another note, I've been reading up on NCR's Reid Watts and IBM's Mark Greene, both of whom were quoted in the ISTPA press release. By the way, the exact same release is posted at the IBM Security site.
Both Watts and Greene have been involved with the subject of online privacy for a while. In earlier articles (from 1998), Mark Greene was quoted re: IBM's support of the Secure Electronic Transaction (or SET) protocol which has been very, very, slow to gain traction.
Watts is working at NCR on some sort of privacy software... that (I think) allows consumers to give or withhold their consent regarding the collection of data (even so-called "anonymous" data) while they're cerfing.
Now, a cautionary note. While I welcome the mere fact that WAVX is part of such illustrious company in the ISTPA, I am very skeptical about the efficacy of such associations. I am not complaining, mind you. If it just turns out to be a glorious networking opportunity for The Spragues, I will think it a wonderful thing. But, many such associations come to naught because the players have hidden agendas that are utterly incompatible. The encouraging thing is that the likes of Mark Greene and Reid Watts and Steven (folks who are far from being lightweights) are getting together to talk about important issues.
An additional note: Greene was part of an IBM symposium on privacy in May of this year.
