I think I know what would help her a lot, and if you did it with her, you'd earn gold stars in heaven ~ walking.
Exercise, in general, is the best thing for overweight, as you know. If she's got adult onset diabetes, then she's got to lose weight and exercise, the consequences are horrendous ~ athersclerosis is awful, but mostly silent. Nerve damage is painful, and irrevocable. She can get diabetic retinopathy, and go blind.
I am sorry that she doesn't believe in medication, do you mean that she won't take anti-depressants, or she won't even take medication for the diabetes? I have posted before that I don't like anti-depressants. But there are good drugs for diabetes, Glucophage is a good one. Rezulin scares me, it can cause liver damage.
As for the depression, exercise helps alleviate that, as well.
You can pitch it as a coupla gals getting together and walking, she's helping YOU lose weight, by giving you someone to talk to. It's a mitzva.
Yesterday I started my exercise program again, it was raining so I walked in the Tyson's Corner shopping mall. Today I have a lot more energy.
BTW, we have another house contract, this one ratified. I am just crossing my fingers, until home inspection next week, but I expect the house to pass. I posted about the house before, but I can't show a picture, it's not on the Internet. It's got really big bedrooms, and it's in the Robinson school district, not Woodson, but Robinson's good, too. More than 3,000 sq. ft. living space, and 1/3 acre. Colonial style, brick and masonry on the bottom two floors, siding on the top floor. Walkout basement. $269K. Relatively new roof and water heater, furnace and compressor, circa 1994. If the house passes the home inspection, closing is 9/20/99. We'll see.
It's a good compromise, nicer than anything else Chris has liked, not as nice as I wanted, but it doesn't need anything done to it, and for the price, I can have a Corian counter. |
