That's what https is for. You use online-trading and banking, how personal is that information?

HTTPS is fine small amounts of information like individual web pages but not for the thin client model where the network becomes your disk drive. The processor time encrypting all those files that you are viewing/editing/creating would take too much time.

That's nice but look at EBAY. Remember a server in the thin client model is holding thousands of user context's. Downtime on a thin client server means $thousands in lost productivity. An occasional Windows reboot doesn't seem to bad when thinking of it that way. I'd rather have control over my information locally than rely on some network and a server.
