We can't figure out what happened to Mephisto. About three or four nights ago, housemate discovered that M had a bald spot, under front paw that extended onto his chest. It was about the size of a quarter.

The skin had been punctured in three places, but the wounds had healed. Now, the fur grows over the area.

Mephisto got outside about a week ago. When he came home, he wasn't upset but he was covered with a couple of squashed slugs. He doesn't mind water so we removed the slugs with wet face cloth. Our concern was that he had eaten slug bait. Animals will eat it, but it is poisonous. He didn't feel well for a couple of days but he ate and drank plenty of water. The warm weather makes him sluggish as well. So I didn't take him to the vet.

And when he returned from his outdoor adventure we never noticed any puncture marks. Three or four days later housemate discovered the bald spot, but he didn't tell me until the next day.

We thought he might have been in a cat fight but it seems unlikely he would have been bitten or scratched in that area.

We thought maybe a wasp or bee stung him.

He caught a large spider a few days back. He played with it. I think it bit him on the mouth. I saw him licking his mouth with paw so I discarded the spider's remains. If the spider had stung him under his front paw, I believe he would have dropped it. I don't believe he would have continued to play with it. I guess we will never know.

Any problems like this with your cats?
