This works, believe me:
Take a single-sized flat sheet. Stretch it out between your hands, as wide as they'll go. Flip it over your head and behind your back, passing over your left shoulder and under your right. Tie it loosely over your sternum. Now pass the knot under your right shoulder and pull it around to the middle of your back.
You now have an uban, a basic third-world baby sling. Open up the sheet in front of you; there is a little marsupial-pocket there where a baby fits nicely. S/he will lie in a semi-fetal position right against your chest, you can walk around with both arms free, even plant or harvest rice if you want. If baby wants to look out, fold the outer edge down. Babies who will sleep nowhere else drift right off in these things. Getting baby out of the uban and into bed is a bit of a challenge, but hey, you're a man, you can do anything.
Good luck.
I'm serious, BTW. I've done it, and it works. |
