Intel Investors - MERCED is ALIVE ! "Merced silicon happens: Linux runs, NT doesn't" This article from the YUK Register suggests that the new MERCED chip is highly functional and is already running the 64 bit LINUX OS - although 64 Bit WinNT is still has problems (can anyone spell MICROSOFT ?). I have received independent confirmation that there is a LOT OF TRUTH to the YUK REGISTER article. The MERCED is alive and well at Intel. Intel has struggled to produce working silicon for some time, with various stops and starts, as reported here previously on numerous occasions. But while the news may be good for Intel, Microsoft is already gnashing its teeth. Because the Linux operating system is already running on the silicon while Microsoft's Win64 software won't. Microsoft Redmond has drafted in armies of developers in an attempt to sort out the embarrassing fact, the sources said.
