You forgot INTC stocks split (When did AMD split its stock last time anyway?), so your memory may not serve you right. :-P

INTC had stock split early this year. finance.yahoo.com

So the earning estimate of $3.60 - $4.00 per share last year is about $1.90 per share today.

And today's upgrade of $2.30 of FY99 is 20% higher than $1.90 estimated a year ago.
