Isn't there an issue of shrinkage as well? E.g. sour gas, once you strip out a bunch of H2S, you're left with an even less favourable ratio than 10 mcf/bbl. I don't think that "gas is gas" -- an mcf doesn't always have the same energy content. I've always preferred the volume measurements to the Canadian government's insistence on using GJs, but there is some logic to the latter.
