President Clinton Is Ignoring the Embedded Chips Problem

<< The embedded chips problem is not being taken seriously. So says Dr. Paula Gordon, who has been a beacon of y2k awareness for years. We are running out of time.

The President seems to have adopted a policy of fix on failure. The Administration is publicly downplaying the y2k threat. So is the press. Dr. Gordon warns that the longer we wait, the worse the disaster. She predicts a 9.5 level of crisis if the government does nothing before January. (I am a 10.)

This is a long and thoughtful essay.

The Institute for Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) sent an Open Letter to Congress on June 9, 1999 expressing the perspective of that organization concerning the seriousness of Y2K. The letter includes a description of Y2K and the embedded systems crisis as "non-solvable" and as a "crisis". It also states that the crisis has not begun to get the attention it deserves. >>
