You don't seem to understand that the views of the VHP, RSS, ... are not the views of all indians,

Of course not all Indians will agree with the VHP, RSS et al. But an overwhelming majority of the so-called "educated" and "enlightened" elite middle-class and upper-classes are definitely with them. I have spoken to dozens of Indians here in the US, and the consensus seems to be that even if these rabid organizations indulge in crimes, it is all happening for the "good" of India! Dissenting opinions are few and far between. I would put it at less than 5 in 100.

You miss the positive influence of a democratic and free press who have brought to light a lunacy.

It is not a "lunacy", it is several crimes at the same time -- cruelty to animals, embezzlement, breach of trust... True, the press has brought this to light. But I will bet my bottom-dollar that there would have been no follow-up action to bring the criminals to justice.
