Bank admits computer problems

------------------------------------------------------------

A UK bank is planning to compensate business
customers adversely affected by computer
troubles.

The Bank of Scotland has admitted hundreds
of thousands of pounds of transactions had
been delayed in the past fortnight by
problems with electronic payments made from
its Edinburgh-based international business
division.

Inward payments have also been affected.

A bank spokeswoman was unable to give specific
details about the problem, but y2k-news.co.uk
understands it ocurred after the installation
of a new Y2K compliant computer system.

She said: "We have experienced operational
problems with a new computer system for
international payments over the past two
weeks.

"This has resulted in delays in the bank's
international payment traffic and a backlog
over the past 10 days."

She was also unable to say how many customers
had been affected, but said any who were out
of pocket as a result of the problem would be
compensated.

The bank hoped to fix the problem today.
