We weren't talking about Barton on DAR, it was on the Myth thread.
To me the interesting thing about Barton is why things like what he did aren't more common. I know that probably sounds sick, but hear me out. It's not at all uncommon, in certain environments, for an angry man to "shoot up the place" when he gets angry, especially when he's been dissed.
I am thinking of people shooting up parties that they were thrown out of, and people shooting up bars that they were thrown out of. I'm not saying it happens every day, but surely you've heard of it.
From time to time, I've read threads on SI that seem to be about questionable or fraudulent stocks, sometimes by following links to Janice Shell, or maybe following a link that a spammer posts, and I've often wondered what it must feel like to be totally ripped off like that.
Even relatively respectable stocks can seem like a rip-off sometimes if you expect to get rich quick, and there's such a get-rich-quick mentality these days in the stock market.
Before I started investing, just a year ago, I had a mental image of stockbrokers as being as respectable, honest and reliable as bankers, and thought that blue-chip companies would likewise be honest, respectable and reliable. My eyes have been opened up, to rampant hucksterism, and not just for fly-by-night BB stocks, either. I guess I sound very naive, but I learned fast. Still learning.
And so now I wonder why more people don't get mad and try to get even. I don't think it's right, and I am not saying it's justified. But it does seem odd that it's uncommon. |
