It almost sounds like you are proud of being a hick!

Proud? No. Mere acceptance of facts.
1)I live outside of town because the nearest town (<10,000) is uncomfortably large for my taste. As I say, I like to be able to pee off of the back deck without the neighbors laughing at me. Outside of a 5 year stint in New Orleans, this is the largest town in which I have lived.
2)I view a 'pickup' as the only natural means of vehicular travel.
3)Sometimes, a horse is the best way to get things done. A ranch and all that stuff...although that is not my living, it is best not to get too far from your 'raising'.
4)A good 'cutting horse' still can make me smile...any breed is OK as long as they are a Quarter Horse....preferable a sorrel. (I do have to admit to a weakness for Tennessee Walkers for just looking over the place...a weakness). There are no points taken off if they have to do some minor bucking on a cold morning but I prefer that they limit it to some 'crow-hopping' and not get into some major stuff.
5)I figure ways that I can get from town to town without doing more than crossing pavement.
6)New England 'in-laws' have said that they can take a nap between the start of my sentences and the finish.
6)I view time not spent with a flyrod or bow in hand as a frivolous waste of time.
7)There's a quart of 'shine' in my refrigerator for medicinal purposes and to entertain visiting 'city-slickers'. I do have a regular bar for the less 'enterprising' or more sensible.
8)Good chili and BBQ are matters of great importance to me.
9)I still use phrases like, "When it gets down to the nut-cutting..."

So...when it get down to the nut-cutting... I is what I is. The rest of it - education,trading,ect - is like saddlebags on a horse. Just a little more paraphernalia.
