Tony - Re: "even Sun's flagship operating system, Solaris, is going to be brought up on Merced,....Sun will be the odd man out," If ( a BIG IF) Solaris becomes the dominant - or preferred - OS fro Merced due to its long development history, scalability, etc., Intel will get a one-time sale on Merced(s) for a system (possibly additional if more "slots" are left unpopulated) but the OS represents a CONTINUAL CASH FLOW - with maintenance releases and the inevitable UPGRADE cycle. SUN could very well make superb PROFITS selling Solaris for Merceds - assuming Merceds sell in quantities that will make us smile. Paul
