Hi Ken [& Steve] - I share your fustration. As recent as yesterday, I saw an article still referring to Nortel Networks as "Northern Telecom!" C'ie la vie!
Of course, many anal-ists are biased, for obvious reasons. I think unless NT literally moves its headquarter to the US, people will continue to call it 'Canadian' [Probably my relatives north of the border are happy to hear that though <VBG>.] And yes, saying NT depends on wireless is like saying CSCO relies on IOS, the whoever who made that comment you reported makes it sound so dirty. Again, I agree with you the bias attitude is uncalled for. I think NT should respond by words and deeds. OOH, I don't want to see mgt to waste too much time to manage the stock; OTOH, defending the company's image, and thus the stock, is a reflection of the strength of a company. Two years ago, some anal-ist tried to question LU's accounting practices. The CFO came right back that afternoon defending his turf. It is true that public co's - especially large ones - books are open for scrutiny, so one shouldn't concern about it if there is nothing to hide. But then, the NY incident was only a year old, so NT should not forget that a lot of people might hope NT to stumble! Of course, the best way to silence critics is to dominate the categories and leverage them. So Mr Roth & crew have the work cut out for them!
Incidentally, here is a piece of news I came across, but I am yet to ascertain if it is meaningless to NT
