Mike : It's my humble opinion that you are trying to read too much into a graph which is, after all, merely a quantitative change of a value in time.

What you are suggesting is
(a) a means of interpolating qualitative data
(b) a means of including on the graph a psychological impact study of any fact or myth on market participants
How anyone could include such variables is beyond me.

For what it's worth, while you are busy pondering the imponderables, ask yourself why no-one on any discussion group or anywhere else, as far as I know, came up with the fact that over the past 20 years gold mining production had doubled, until Bob showed us his pictures. Sure, we heard about CB selling, conspiracies, short selling, gold loans etc etc but no-one ever mentioned that mining production had actually doubled and that this was swamping the market. The obvious had eluded everyone.

Someone once said that the hardest thing to see is that which is right before one's eyes!
